Bluey - Fruitbat

Bluey, eager to avoid bedtime, imagines herself as a nocturnal fruit bat, allowing her to soar through the night sky.

The Heelers had just wrapped up a game of Pop-Up Croc when Chilli announced it was time for bed. Bluey and Bingo weren’t having it, and they made a run for the outdoors to say goodnight to the frogs, kangaroos, and bilbies. Bandit joined in, bidding the fruitbats a good evening, and Bingo shared her newfound knowledge that they were “octurnal”. This sparked Bluey’s desire to stay up all night, just like the fruitbats.

Bandit had to get creative to get the girls to bed, using all sorts of tricks to make the bedtime routine more fun. They blasted off up the stairs in a “rocketship”, slid around the bathroom floor like “penguins” during their shower, and even played a “story game” with their bedtime book. Despite the fun, Bluey was still resistant, complaining that it wasn’t fair that her parents got to stay up. Bingo was out like a light as soon as her head hit the pillow, but Bluey tossed and turned before eventually getting up and heading downstairs. She found her dad sprawled out on the floor, flailing about in his sleep as he clutched his football. Chilli explained that he was probably dreaming about playing touch football with his friends, something he didn’t get to do often anymore. This gave Bluey an idea – maybe she could dream about being a fruitbat. She rushed back upstairs to bed, eager to see where her dreams would take her.

In her dream, Bluey took to the skies with the fruitbats, flying over houses and hanging upside down in trees to munch on fruit. She even caught up with Bandit on the footy field, where he was scoring a try with his mates. After saying hello, Bluey took off again, flying through the air until she woke up in her bed. The next morning, Chilli greeted Bluey in the kitchen, where Bandit was doing sit-ups on the floor. Bluey jumped on him, thanking him for taking care of them, and recalling Chilli’s comment from the night before. When Chilli offered her favorite breakfast, fruit salad, Bluey surprisingly asked for toast instead, leaving both Chilli and Bingo taken aback by the change of heart.
