Bluey, Bingo, and Bandit arrive at the beach on a skateboard, with Chilli walking behind them. As they hit the sand, they dive into all sorts of activities – feeling the sand’s texture, applying sun cream and zinc, setting up the sunshade, playing jump the waves, and soaking up the sunshine. They also make sandcastles and bury each other’s legs in the sand, creating a mermaid tail.
As they’re having fun, Mum decides to take a walk along the beach by herself, looking for some alone time. Bluey finds a conch shell and wants to show it to Mum, so Dad lets her go on a solo adventure to catch up. First, Bingo – aka King Neptune – frees Bluey’s legs from the mermaid tail so she can walk. As Bluey follows Mum’s footsteps, she encounters a surfing champion, a flock of seagulls, and a big wave that covers Mum’s tracks. She also meets a weeing pippy, a soldier crab, and a whole herd of soldier crabs, as well as a scary jellyfish and a washed-out sand castle that she thinks must be a mermaid house.
At one point, Bluey realizes she’s too far from both Mum and Dad and can’t hear them. She’s truly alone now, and when she encounters a beady-eyed pelican, she must be brave. She asks the pelican to move, but it refuses, making her think she’ll have to turn back. However, she spots Mum’s footsteps reappearing in the sand and gives herself a pep talk to creep around the pelican. As the pelican flies away, Bluey sees Mum and runs to meet her. After telling Mum all about her adventure, they walk back along the beach hand in hand. Bluey says she enjoys walking on her own, but walking with a loved one is special too.
