Bandit takes his daughters, Bluey and Bingo, to the movies to see Chunky Chimp. Bingo is thrilled, playing with a cardboard cutout of the main character, while Bluey is a bit nervous. She’s never been to the movies before and is worried there might be thunder in the film. Despite her concerns, she’s eager to watch it, especially since her friend Mackenzie has already seen it.
At the snack bar, Bandit orders tickets and a small tub of popcorn, which disappoints Bingo as she was hoping for a giant one. Bluey asks if there are any “scary bits” in the movie, and the ticket salesman reveals that there’s a thunderstorm towards the end, making Bluey even more apprehensive. Once they’re inside the theater, they watch the trailers, and then the movie starts. Chunky Chimp, a pink chimpanzee, is building a bicycle, but another chimp teases him for being “different”. Chunky Chimp starts singing about wishing he wasn’t different, which annoys Bandit. Bingo spills her popcorn, so Bandit takes the girls to get a replacement. Bluey feels a bit insecure, remembering that she’s the only one in her friend group who hasn’t been to the movies before, making her feel “different” like the chimp in the movie. Bandit reassures her not to worry too much.
As they return to the movie, Chunky Chimp is trying to fit in on land instead of in the trees and is told to “be himself”. Meanwhile, Bingo gets bored and wants to explore, then needs to use the bathroom. While Bingo is in the bathroom, Bluey wonders if she should also “be herself”, but Bandit tells her not to take the movie too seriously. When the thunderstorm scene comes on, Bluey gets nervous and wants to leave, but Bandit needs her help finding Bingo, who has run off. Bluey is scared, with her eyes closed, but when she hears a character say, “There’s no one else quite like you,” she opens her eyes and isn’t scared anymore. After Bandit finds Bingo, he’s ready to leave, but Bluey has changed her mind and wants to stay and finish watching the movie, which ends with a musical number about being oneself.
